Sedation Dentistry – A Popular Option for Our Anxious Patients

Doctor and patient conversation

For some, it is the sound of the dental equipment – for others the smell, or the sight of the dentist’s chair triggers a bad memory. Everyone has their own reason for not loving dental work—and that’s ok. We don’t take it personally! Dental care has come a long way in the last 10-15 years and often our new patients are surprised at how pleasant an experience it is to come and visit us at Belleview Dental Associates.

Sometimes some of our the patients are still a bit uncomfortable or have a lot of anxiety around the fear of pain, the experience of work in their mouths, or other health issues that make dental visits fearful. We understand, and we can help!

Sedation dentistry may be the right answer for youWe offer sedation dentistry  to patients who want a less stressful procedure, and those who have additional health issues that cause dental phobias (such as connective tissue and sensory disorders). At Belleview Dental Associates, we use the safest medicines and latest modern medical equipment to help you to stay relaxed throughout the procedure. Generally, our patients stay awake, but some do feel so relaxed they take a short nap while we do the work of a general cleaning, a tooth extraction, or even an implant. Sedation dentistry is a great option for any type of procedure for anyone with a dental phobia, or anxiety.

There are different levels of sedation and different options for how the sedation is administered. Our highly trained dental team will consult with you about which option is best for you, your procedure and your situation.

When having sedation dental treatment, we require you come with a friend of family member who can drive you home and care for you as you will be a bit groggy. Depending on the procedure, you may be prescribed pain medication.

All of our patients are unique, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. At Belleview Dental Associates, we’re committed to ensuring that each individual gets the personalized care they need.
